Cameron – Crossford Construction

Cameron

Project Summary

Updating a classic home to give it modern functionality is always a delicate balancing act, but one that Crossford Construction manages beautifully. The extensive renovations to this stately home in Old Ottawa South, not far from the Rideau River, transformed the early-1900s gem into a space filled with light and life, designed and crafted to meet the family’s exacting specifications.

The Challenge

Working with an older structure presents unique challenges and limitations but the Crossford team was able to leverage its experience to fulfill the clients’ wish list. Most important was preserving the classic character of the home, while bringing it up to date.

The Solution

A gleaming new kitchen with loads of granite counters and a spectacular coffered ceiling is a new focal point in the home, accompanied by a cozy breakfast nook and a nearby mudroom entrance with lots of storage. Virtually the whole home was refreshed to maximize space, including the updated bathrooms and a cheerful third floor retreat.

The Result

This home is now a perfect blend of old and new, thanks to its understated and elegant design, evident in such details as the fireplace’s black slate surround and adjacent Shaker-style, glass-fronted cherry cabinetry. The clients’ satisfaction – and that of the Crossford team that transformed it – was only increased when their home was declared a winner at the 2012 Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Awards!
