Wilton Crescent
Project Summary
This older home in Ottawa’s stately Glebe neighbourhood needed a major renovation to bring it up to modern standards. The project involved building an addition and converting the third floor attic into a lovely office. As the job progressed, the clients decided to also incorporate finishing the basement, creating a beautiful guest suite.
The Challenge
The plans and drawings were not completely finalized when Crossford began work. As a result, the team needed to be flexible and spontaneous. With constant, productive dialogue with the client and the design team, everything stayed on course. Managing the changing requirements and making decisions on the fly is something Crossford handles extremely well.
The Solution
The goals were to enhance and expand the living quarters with a gourmet kitchen, eating area, family room and tidy mud room as well as to provide ample working space for these two busy professionals. The home’s elegant appearance was dramatically improved by replacing the wrap-around porch, creating a gorgeous outdoor living and dining area.
The Result
The owners were pleased to maintain their home’s elements of character while also being environmentally conscious through the use of reclaimed materials. In the third floor space, the exposed brick chimney was maintained, accentuating the warm, older feel of the home. The result is an outstanding house that now provides the family with more space than they had thought possible.
